Paul A. Mathew
Paul Mathew is a building energy efficiency and decarbonization expert with over 30 years of experience, working at the intersection of technology, markets and policy. His expertise includes high performance building technologies, sustainable finance, energy and carbon benchmarking, and building performance standards and policies. He has led major projects for governmental and non-profit organizations, collaborating with leading real estate owners, investors, operators, designers, service providers and policy makers.
He spent 21 years at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as a Staff Scientist and Department Head of Whole Building Systems. He also served as a Senior Fellow at the U.S. Green Building Council, focused on sustainable finance and portfolio strategies. He has authored over 180 technical publications and received a U.S. Presidential Award for federal energy efficiency. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and received his Ph.D. in Building Performance and Diagnostics from Carnegie Mellon University.
